It’s safe to say the performance of a phone doesn’t depend on the specifications listed on the box, it’s actually about the user’s first experience with the device.
Beyond the specifications that we saw during the unboxing of the Tecno PhonePad 3, I was able to dedicate some amount of time to have a hands-on experience of the device.
Here were my opinions on the performance, high sides and low sides of the Tecno PhonePad 3.
The Tecno PhonePad 3 is encased in a steel body with perfect angles to improve your handling of the device. It comes with similarities as its predecessor — the Tecno PhonePad 7E — but with more comfortable feel to handling design and ensuring the comfortability of the user.
The 7” high-resolution touchscreen gives your adequate oversight of everything happening on the screen with very efficient backlight.
With the large screens that were upgraded to 720 x 1280, as opposed to the Tecno PhonePad 7E that came with 600 x 1024 resolution, you can view almost about anything that you’ll have viewed on your laptop or computer.
With a length of 188mm, 98mm breath and with a thickness of 7.85mm the design of the Tecno PhonePad 3 tries to find a balance between a phone and tablet to make it the ideal phablet
The magnificent 7-inch screen built in with 720 x 1280 IPS with full lamination which is a good fit for getting the best of views.
The viewing angles have been designed to produce crisp displays for the enjoyment of the user. I watched a few movies on the device and it perfectly took the place of my laptop as the display was awesome and also the output sound was one to adore, with or without an earpiece.
The display is so effective that even when placed in landscape mode, images and video do not get distorted in any way. With this very vibrant and effective display, businessmen and women can make calls and communicate via video with associates without a hitch from the device in the call process.
The 13 MP rear-facing camera of the Tecno PhonePad 3, which has an 85-degree wide angle, gives delight when it brings forth results from the images that have been taken (giving detailed references to colours and elements in the picture), accompanied with a dual flash at the rear, the camera can still capture your best moment in low light situations and a 5.0MP with flash gives a low quality picture not so nice.
The fingerprint scanner is positioned at the right side of the phone
Due to the positioning of the fingerprint scanner, it is always getting in contact with my hands. So even when I am holding the device my finger mistakenly touches the sensor and it reads “wrong fingerprint”. This lead to the phone being disabled few times.
Aside from this, the sensitivity of the fingerprint scanner built into the side of the Tecno PhonePad 3 is a beauty, I didn’t need to struggle with it to have it recognize my finger. I don’t need to be racking my head for passwords anymore.
The fingerprint scanner also acts as a scroll bar when you are viewing a documents, instead of splattering your fingers across the screen. The Tecno PhonePad 3 allows you to slightly nudge on the sensor and scroll down and up a document. Talk about effective accessibility.
The Tecno PhonePad 3 features a quad- core 64-but Mediatek MT8375W processor, with a processor speed of 1.3 GHz. The inbuilt memory of the device is 16GB which is said to be expandable to about 128 GB. This is a comfortable size for a business person but the device comes with just 2GB RAM, which I don’t think is an okay amount for a businessman to do all his work. The manufacturers should have paid good attention to the performance of the device in the long run.
The Tecno PhonePad 3 comes with a 4100 mAh non-removable battery. Getting the battery of the phone to get used up was one hard but also the most delightful part of my review. Making use of the device for close to 48 hours and I still had a good amount of battery left to listen to music and make calls thanks to the ultra-power saving mode built into the device (I was using the device without internet).
After a full charge, which was relatively fast, it took about 78 hours for the battery of the device to deplete completely. Bear in my that I wasn’t doing anything on the phone for the 3 days.
This is a new addition to the Tecno PhonePad series called “Biz Assistant”. It can be found on the home screen of the device. It helps business people to easily store up their documents, business cards for easy accessibility.
There are apps such as CamCard for digitizing and managing business cards, CamScanner for scanning documents and WPS for reading and editing documents on the device. And some other applications that will help business activities get easier.
Focusing on the motto of the device, handed out by the manufacturers “do business stay mobile”, the features and performance of the device have been able to do justice to the needs of a businessman/woman who is on the go with pre-installed apps to assist in business affairs and a design that is targeted at the comfortability of business people.
The Tecno PhonePad 3 is a wonderful device that is not out of standard and is also in connection with the new trends. Above all, the device is quite affordable at a price range of ₦69,000 to ₦72,000. The device has been launched and released into the Nigerian Market.
